Miner Avenue Complete Street Improvements Project Celebration

The City of Stockton is holding a ceremony to celebrate the official completion and opening of the Miner Avenue Complete Street Improvements project on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will take place near the roundabout at the intersection of Miner Avenue and San Joaquin Street. All members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The term “complete streets,” is a smart growth term that means the street is designed for everyone with access to all modes of transportation. The project has beautifully revitalized the area making it accessible for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians, with easy access to bus and train transportation, making it attractive for economic development and new business opportunities along the corridor.

The Miner Avenue Complete Street project area extends from Center Street (Weber Point) to Aurora Street, which is the entry to the Robert J. Cabral (Train) Station. The roadway, sidewalks, and landscaping have been completely transformed:

• reducing the number of vehicle travel lanes from two to one lane in each direction; • repaving the roadway; • constructing a traffic calming round-about at Miner Ave. and San Joaquin St., which

includes the historical landmark, The Spire, formally located at Hunter Square • adding parallel parking, buffered bicycle lanes, and right turn pockets; • installing landscaped medians with drought tolerant plantings and hardscape; and • installing decorative bollards, bike racks, benches, and trash receptacles.

Miner Avenue was originally one of the most vibrant streets in Stockton. Revitalizing the street provides appealing and accessible locations for a mix of storefronts, restaurants, locations for gatherings, and housing, all in an urban walkable area – downtown Stockton.
